Gary has been shaping since 1967, and continues to hand shape   boards for our shop to this day. He still paddles into big waves, 25++ and is the director of the Big Wave World Tour. Gary spends time in the NW whenever he gets the chance, which helps us to design boards for this area.  Gary shapes our SB model boards, which are a collaboration with Sandy Barrett and himself. This is a classic longboard shape that works great around here! He works with standard foam, EPS,   and has been shaping balsa and agave boards for about 30 years or more. He is always ready to custom shape a board for any of our customers, and we welcome the direct contact between our customers and Gary. A great friend of the shop! We have several of his models as rentals at our shop.

Bob Bolen    “The Greek”

Greek Surfboards

“The Greek”, as he is known in the Surfing Industry, started surfing in 1958 and began shaping in 1959. In 1960 he opened a surf shop, known as “Surfboards by the Greek”, in Huntington Beach which he owned and operated until 1980. He shut the doors of the shop in the summer of 1980 but never traveled far from the beach he loved or the surfing industry he helped change with his now-famous surfboard shapes such as the The Maui Model, The Eliminator, The Liquidator, The Pickle and The Outlaw (among others).  More recently he has added The Stylemaster and The Shorty to his growing list of memorable designs.

Considered by many of his peers to be a master of his craft, “The Greek” (a.k.a. Bob Bolen) has been designing and shaping custom surfboards for over 45 years.

Bob also invented the revolutionary “Turbo Tunnel Fin” for longboarders all around the world.

Surfboards by Robbie Dick

Robbie is another transplant like so many of us that escaped the south.  He has been shaping since the mid 60’s, and was a guy who learned from the likes of Velzy.  He was part of  “Natural Progression” surfboards from the Malibu area.   If you do the google on Robbie Dick, there can be found a great story from the old days, look for “Surfers Rule” by McLeer. Robbie is not a guy who does much bragging, but is now shaping in the Portland , Or. area, and does have a house here in

Cannon Beach.
