Got this from our buddy Markus….. love it….. tooth pain???
Axxe Update:
I liked the hooded 5mm so much, I ordered a non-hooded, front-zip 5/3 (original review on Surfermag here) page 26 of The Great Unbiased Wetsuit Review Thread). This is still unequivocally the warmest, lightest, stretchiest suit I’ve ever worn. It’s worth every penny. Have you ever had tooth pain? I have. In the moment, I’d pay any amount of money to be pain free. However, one week later, buyer’s remorse sets in. $500 seems like an exorbitant amount of money for a 1-hour dental procedure doesn’t it? The surfing equivalent to this is spending what may initially seem an excessive cost for a wetsuit. After your first good wave in this wetsuit, you’ll have gladly paid any amount for that feeling. You know the one; freedom. In the original post, I stated that I surf 10 years younger. I just reconfirmed this the other day. I surfed a predictable, overhead, powerful wave on the first session of the new suit. The water was cold – and this place always a few degrees colder than the beachies. The lulls were half an hour for a 3.5-hour session. In my 5mm hooded Excel, my calf muscles would have cramped after the first hour and I’d have been shivering in the second. With these conditions, I’ve historically felt frustratingly sluggish due to cold. With this suit, I was completely warm and flexible for the entire session. I had no sluggish reflexes and no cramping. The wave was fast, glassy and long. I got to really feel the compression and release of pumping down the line. I felt much more connected to the board, the wave and to my movements. I laid into a cutty and rotated my torso, shoulders and neck with no restriction and complete freedom; and I did this at hour number 3, feeling warm and flexible. (Note for Pacific Northwesters: a long-neck cap is included with the non-hooded suit. The suit’s neck cuff is quite high. I’ve found this to be as good a barrier as an attached hood and much much more comfortable. The neck seal is accurate to size. When ordering/measuring, take the neck circumference and reduce it by one centimeter to assure a snug fit.)
Linden Pretty Much Update
Follow up from the original review posted on Surfermag here This board is supposedly made for beachbreak. I surfed it at a reef break the other day. In one turn, I performed the hardest, most drivey turn I’ve ever experienced. The centripetal force continued to build throughout the turn. It really locked in; not too much, not in a knifey way. I was impressed at the size of wave it handled, being only 2 inches taller than I and with such a wide tail. This board generates speed quickly and redirects in a positive, intentional way. It surfs waist high to well overhead with equal facility. I can’t recommend it enough. This is truly a quiver-killer, all-arounder. With a quad fin, it holds amazingly in bigger waves and a tri fin it redirects quickly and maintains speed in all types of waves.

Last week, Fireman Tim from Seattle and Justin from Portland picked up their new custom Linden’s…. Tim also got his custom Axxe wetsuit at the same time….(perfect timing!!) Just wanted to share their comments on the new boards….. We enjoy having Gary Linden shape custom boards, I think we all have fun with it, and the boards have been UNREAL!!
From Tim:
Hey Mark,
Pictures don’t come close to doing this board justice. It is a work of art!
But beyond appearance, the board works like a dream. I am so glad I opted for the custom. Having Gary build the board specifically for my my size and style of surfing has produced amazing results. The board is 8-6 but manuevers like a 6-0, and I’m riding it single fin. It has lower volume than many of the longer boards off the rack, but paddles fast and catches waves easy. And once on the wave this thing screams! What’s the term, “faster than a raped ape?” That is this board! I was making sections backside that I never would have made before, not to mention top-turns, re-entries, late take-offs, cut-backs all the way to the lip. I just plain surf better on this board!
As for this Axxe Featherlight full-suit, wow! I don’t think I have ever experienced a three hour session in the Pacific Northwest, (or probably anywhere on the west coast for that matter), where I did not feel the smallest bit of a shiver, not once. Didn’t even feel the water temperature, except in my hands and feet. The suit is so warm, yet I never felt over-heated. Nor did I ever feel restrained or uncomfortable in the thing. The neoprene they use is amazing, so stretchy and comfortable, my paddling felt totally unimpeded. Kept the hood down most of the time and never felt the hood-choke you get with lots of other suits. The double cuffs in the wrists and ankles are like magic, no water entry at all. I was able to take the velcro closures off my booties, don’t need ‘em! Oh, and the thing fits me like a glove, everywhere – another first after 30+ years of surfing!
I am indeed a happy camper!
All the best, Tim C
From Justin:
The last board I bought (from Mark) was one he had on the rack (also a great board). Sometimes you know a board is going to be awesome just by seeing it. This was in stark comparison to the Stewart I had custom made sometime ago, it was fine but never had that magic feeling.
As soon as I saw what Gary had made for me I knew it was perfect. The craftsmanship is awesome and it ended up being exactly what I wanted. A mini log that still went fast. It out paddles the 9’6″ Stewart I had and from the waves I got with it is way faster too. Every wave, even the ones that closed out on me left me grinning from ear to ear. Thanks Gary!
Quick thanks to Tim and Justin for the comments…… makes us feel good about what we do…… and, I know Gary and Eric at Axxe enjoy getting some feedback as well!!

Seems like today, Veteran’s Day is a good time to explain the Wall in the shop. We get alot of comments from people that walk in , asking about our service, or why the patches , pictures, coins etc…. are up on the wall behind us….. Story is, years ago, during the first Iraq, we had a Marine, Clint, (picture below) get in touch with us to order a custom Linden, he wanted it to be ready to pick up when he was back from his deployment. We got it made, a custom “camo” Linden…… he left us his hat (cover) when he left, and so I just hung it up on the clock, where it is still today. Well, that started it….. next, a kid from the Army, back, left his patch…. so, I put it up on the wall….. then, a couple other people came in, and left their patches….. then it started to take on a life of it’s own…. when we opened the new building, of course we moved everything over. Then, the cops and fireman started to ask why we didn’t have any of their stuff up there…… so, they started leaving patches hats, and even a plaque from Beaverton PD……. and , it continues to grow….. a couple years ago, some Coasties came in, wondered why we didn’t have any of their stuff up there…..same answer….. because no one brought anything in….. so, a couple of them somehow “found” a flag off their boat, and brought it in…….. now, we get coins, rank, other “stuff” from all branches of the military, and cops and fireman from all over the country. We are proud to have this wall up….. some may not understand such a thing in a surf shop……… but, we get a ton of comments, and we are proud of each patch up on the wall! And….. we always welcome any new additions!!!!
