Met Gordon up at the beach this morning…… the initial sunrise was pretty nice, than it got dark…… S winds started to pick up a bit , to about 10mph, rain……. surf was junky, and about 5-6ft. High tide is at 9:30a, so there was a lot of water. The rip at the north end was huge, probably about 40 to 50 yards across, and heading out to sea….. not a good place for beginners….. so, looks like the storm is coming in quicker than we had expected……. Today; W5-6ft, building to about 11ft this afternoon @ 6-10 sec’s. Low tide at 4:45p, water temp about 51, air will get up to 50 today. Thursday; SW 12+ft @ 10 secs with S winds 20+mph, 55 and rain. high tide at 10:20am, low at 5:20p. Friday W 15ft @ 13 sec’s with light SE winds, low tide at 5am, high at 11a, 53 and rain. Saturday SW 15-20ft @ 10-13 sec’s with S winds 25+mph, low tide at 6a, 59 and showers. Sunday WSW 20ft @ 10-13 sec’s with S winds 25mph, low tide at 6:30a, 55 and showers. Monday W 15ft @ 13sec’s with SW winds 10mph, 56 and rain. Tuesday W 12ft @ 13 sec’s with light SW winds, 53 and cloudy….. looks like the next sunny period will begin around the 18th…..
So…. last night a bunch of us attended the first of the “Cape Falcon Marine Reserves” meeting here in Cannon Beach. This first meeting was scheduled for 3+hours, and focused on setting up the chair & vice chair for the meetings, set up meeting schedules, recap of past meetings, report from community teams on their meetings, and set up ways to and rules to make decisions, and where the source information will come from. All this was a meeting to have meetings…… it was good to see some CB locals (cory, cliff and I) and a bunch of Seaside fisherman / surfers…… My initial feeling is that for the first couple of meetings, this will be a time for the people on the boards to hear themselves speak and pontificate, as they did last night…. I will continue to post when follow up meetings are, because it may seem like a “fishing only” situation, but this can escalate to all forms of ocean use….. more damn politicians involved…… watch your butt!!! I will post some of the items from their handouts later today on our blog……

Your right about the goverment class moving into controling and feeing us into every use of our oceans , even if it is already properly managed and sustainably being used. The governent and nonprofit mafia is figuring out every way to prop up their self intrest empire. How many marine biolgists does the private sector really need and were else could they get a job with a $100,000 education? (create Gov. jobs) . The game has changed goverment and it’s cronies are destroying Oregon for the future!! Can only hope for some change.
