Overcast this morning, but looks like the swell picked up a bit from yesterday…… SW3-4ft @ 9 sec’s today, with light SW winds……. overcast should burn off later in the am….. Rest of the week looking small…. Monday SW4 @ 8sec. with light S/SW winds, high tide at 9a. Tuesday W3ft with light SW winds, high tide at 10a, Wed. W2ft with light S/SW winds high tide at 11a, Thursday W3ft with light S/SW winds and high tide at noon……. In the shop all day, so I think I will wait for the “epic monday” to get wet…… might even have to go over and surf with the famous (or infamous) SB at his esoteric spot…….
Yesterday, we had some good , fun brainstorming on some new stuff we are going to be doing…No doubt, this will give Brook and Cory some nightmares…… we are actually thinking of stuff…… the new cabinet is being delivered on Tuesday afternoon, so the new venture can open on Wed….. if we get some inventory…….(a few items have arrived)….. AS with the inventory at the surf shop, we are only going to be bringing in the best we can find….. just like our handmade in the US surfboards, and we continue to strive to find products made in the USA or “The America’s”…… Quality will continue to be our focus…..hell, we even found some beach toys for the Beach Store that are made in America!! Actually had a guy in the shop yesterday trying to sell me on some high end sandals….. made in china…. his response was that the only place in the world to find the quality of craftsmanship that they needed was in china….???? WTF????? I don’t think we will be adding those to our lineup…… yep, a pretty mild rant this morning….. but the best story of the weekend was the guy who rented one of our suits…. (not a Boz) and the zipper got stuck, and he couldn’t get out of his suit…… so, he comes by the shop…. I am at home on my 2nd glass of wine…. Pedro calls tells me the story…. I go over to the shop….. check it out…and yes, he is stuck….. so I ask him to turn around, where at that point, I pull out the good old Kershaw, and slice open the back of the suit….. that guy didn’t move a muscle……. but the look on his face was worth another bottle of wine….. so I took another home and drank it……

Got some waves this morning……. pictures are much better than the conditions…. waist high junky, with some south cross currents in the W 3 ft swell….. all in all, took a bit, but finally picked off a few fun ones…. and it just felt damn good to get out and paddle…. Flounder was out early, and said it was epic in the white water….. said he was hanging 10 on every wave…..overhead, until he stood up……. Surfed with The Gordon, Jules and Mike this morning…..good group…… another “epic” session at the secret spot at Ecola……. south will be better today….. north…. not so good……. Sat. looks to be about the same, a little bump on sunday to 4ft , then Mon and Tues W/NW 4ft with light NW winds in the am, with the usual stronger winds in the afternoon…… Sun was out, so no matter what the surf was doing, it was damn nice out there……

Well…. drove around for a quick look…… damn is it small!!! Reminds me of Finger……. but…another story…… It is all of W 2 with an occasional 3 ft set coming through….. no wind, and the sun is out…… Even the “flounder” could get outside for the big sections…… Hell, I think I will wait until later, and walk out behind the shop….. big open beach, might be the best call, before the wind picks up later today…… W-2-3 ft @ 8-10 sec’s with light N winds in the morning, picking up to 20+ later today…. sunshine.. minus low tide at 11:30a……. Looks about the same for Friday and Saturday….. then…… Epic surf on Sunday…W 5ft with light am N winds….. yep, that secret spot south of here…….. Monday…W 5ft with light NW winds…… another Epic day to be had…… at that same secret spot………

post Flounders response to yesterdays comments

May 28th, 2009

Yes, just to show that I will not hide some of the comments I get back from certain “assmunch surfers”…… who by the way still wear the bright orange water wings…….
Flounders Official Response to the Surf Report:
All i can say is look at picture number Three…..EPIC!!!! Look at the beautiful face on that baby on the outside!!! That is surfing at its finest. By the way, i was having a few beers with some of my famous shaper friends while i was down south in California, and it was a general consensus of all gathered that one truly shows their skills surfing the smaller waves. To quote one of the surfer/shapers present, whose identity i will not give away, (but his initials were G.L.), “Any body can surf the big waves, but its the truly talented surfers, who are in touch with the spirit of the ocean that can handle the so called white water”. Just some food for thought for you folks out in the line up who are sending out the negative vibes. And even with your negative vibes, i will still show you the Aloha Spirit as you paddle through my turf, (the white water), on your way back to the beach. Drove up to see about an early morning surf, before the damn minus low tide at 10:40 this morning….. Small…. W 2-4ft at best, saw only one “sorta set” come through….. Flounder would have been in pig heaven……. Very light N winds this morning, but supposed to get some gusts to 25 mph later today….. so…. looking at the next 4 days, looks like W 3ft is the call….. Light N winds….. Thursday has another damn minus low tide at 11:30a, then Friday’s high tide is at 5:20a, Sat at 6:30a, and Sunday at 7:40a….. Going to need a lot of foam….. but, going to go back up around the 11a time and see if it got any better……

Yesterday was beautiful down here….. the perfect Memorial Day….. finally got out late morning with Jyanial and had a few without a crowd……. but, I did notice the lineup of cars trying to get into the park as I was leaving…. good timing! This morning, slightly overcast, no wind, but tiny surf…. W 2-4ft today @ 8-10 sec’s, and yes, the damn minus low tide at 10a. So….. will work the shop for a while, then take a drive and see what can be found…..then back to the desk to finish up orders……. Wed. W 4@9sec’s with light N winds in the am, picking up in the afternoon to around 20mph. Minus Low tide at 10:40a. Thursday looks the same, minus low tide around noon. Friday is supposed to pick up to W7ft with N winds 20 mph, with high tide at 5am. Sat. NW 7ft with N winds 15mph and high tide at 6:30a……

post Memorial Day – Monday

May 25th, 2009

Filed under: Surf Reports — mark @ 7:51 am

Was beautiful yesterday, and the swell picked up more than the projected 1-2 ft….. Looks like this morning will be W 3-4ft @ 9- 12 sec’s with light N/NW winds today….. and sunshine….. Damn minus low tide at 9a….. looks like a late morning session….. damn it! Rest of the week looking the same, W4ft with winds mostly out of the N/NW except for Tuesday, light S winds…. should make SB happy….. some of us old farts are starting to get a little testy with the lack of water time….. with some luck, that will be remedied this week…… Today is Memorial Day….. at first, we were thinking we should do what most do….. the big Memorial Day Sale….. but, given more thought, I found the idea sort of pissed me off….. afterall, this is a day to remember those that gave it all, not only the military, but the police and fire that go to work everyday not knowing if it will be a good day or bad day……. big diff. from most of our “good or bad” days….. Still going to do some barbque later (hopefully!), and no doubt have a couple drinks or more….but going to try to think about the day……. Sun is out, going to be great at the beach, and with a bit of luck, might get wet…… both inside and out! Thanks to all those that have or are still serving….. in all capacities!! Have a great day!

post another soft top down

May 25th, 2009

Filed under: Announcements — mark @ 6:51 am

Been a brutal couple of weeks with rental boards…….. last weekend, a guy took out one of the new 9’6″ Linden rentals (been in the water twice) and snapped about 18″ off the nose…… yesterday, not to be out done, this fine gentleman snapped a soft top in half…… surf was small…… just hit the right shorebreak at the right time……. haven’t seen one of these in several years……
