post comment on new board

November 29th, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — mark @ 6:00 pm

Just got this copy from Kerry, who just got his new fish from Gary Linden…. thought I would share on the blog…..
Gary,
I just wanted to let you know how much fun I?ve already had on the fish you shaped for me. As you know this is the first fish I?ve ever ridden or owned. I just wish I would have experimented with one earlier. It paddles easily and allows for early entry. I also want to thank you for talking me into going with a shorter length than I had originally planned. Maneuverability is great, and late take-offs are easier to negotiate. As has always been the case with the boards you?ve built for me, I?m very pleased. This board is just plain fun!
Thanks again, Kerry

post Thanksgiving!

November 28th, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — mark @ 11:00 am

A great Thanksgiving for Clint (Gunny) and his crew in Afganistan….. they are on their way home, and he might be able to get some waves next week around the Oceanside, Ca. area……

Here is todays final OEF Combat Camera PPT. It has been a pleasure bringing our imagery to you all for the last eight months. I hope you all enjoyed the images and look forward to the next COMCAM teams imagery. We will no longer be responding to our Afghan accounts. Take care and Semper Fi.
GySgt Clint Runyon 2nd BN 7th Marines

LCpl Statz was wounded in action back in June and had to return home for recovery. We picked this image for him because it was a very candid image of a local Afghan and was a great representation of LCpl Statz work. He was doing what a good Combat Cameraman does: Capturing moments that tell

I chose this photo because I feel that it justifies the word ?Combat? being used in Combat Camera. This is my photo, there are many like it but this one is my own.

The reason I picked this photo was because it demonstrates the U.S. Marines and Sailors taking care of the local nationals while also completing their mission. We spent a lot of time with the locals and helping the kids.

I came into Afghanistan with the advanced party of 2d BN 7th Marines. I chose this photo because it is one of the first that I took on this deployment. It was published and I got to see what other people thought of it very early in the deployment.

COMCAM OEF Kandahar April 2008 From Left to right: GySgt Clint Runyon, Cpl Jason Guiliano, LCpl Gene Allen Ainsworth III, LCpl James McKenzie, LCpl Chad Pulliam, LCpl Shawn Statz (WIA), Sgt Freddy Cantu

2/7 COMCAM OEF November 27th 2008 from Left to right: Cpl Cory Tepfenhart, LCpl Gene Ainsworth, LCpl Chad Pulliam, GySgt Clint Runyon, LCpl James McKenzie, Sgt Freddy Cantu, Cpl Jason Guiliano

It has been an amazing trip. Thanks to everyone at 2/7, Combat Camera and all of our family and friends for the support and care packages. We hope you all enjoyed the imagery. It is time for us to come home! Semper Fi, Gunny Runyon

Thanks to Cory for that entertaining commentary yesterday on the Blog….. I think I will owe him one……. Nelscott contest is happening on Sunday…. the only reason it is noteworthy, is that Gary Linden is heading up to compete in the “paddle in” part of the contest….. at this time, doesn’t look like I will be able to get down there, but we are hoping Gary will come up here after the contest for some cocktails etc…… we will see…..

Friday, W 12ft @ 14 sec’s with S winds and Low tide at 6:10a Sat. picks up to W 14ft with NE winds and Low tide at 7a Sunday W 15ft with SE winds and Low tide at 7:40a Monday, drops to W 11ft with NW winds and Low at 8:15a

post Wed Late Morning

November 26th, 2008

Filed under: Surf Reports — the foot @ 11:47 am

Took a drive up to Indian. East wind blowing, one guy out, two guys paddling out the rip. One guy got a pretty good drop right into an airborne victory double pike dive while his maxed out leash thinned out to tooth-floss thickness.

Decided to drive over the head and found nothing worth taking pics of. Was ‘ok-ish’ and maybe getting better as the tide came in. 2 or 3 out getting served. Beach-break shaping up nicely if there was any way to stay lined up w/ more than one.

Lovely reddish brown gek slurping up against the rocks made this staph infected kid say “no thanks”.

Sounds like Mekenarse had a nice alien removed from the back of his neck today and is enjoying the rare highlights of driving in city traffic. Sounds like a holiday cocktail for disaster: 2 parts Mekenarse fueled by Novocaine in his neck, 2 parts he’s shot up with a boatload of other pharmaceuticals, a dash of put on “no-surf” arrest for a few days, and a squirt of dog-sitting, I’ll be he’s about to pop.
Have a great Fasting Before Thanksgiving Day.
